Xavier, Cincinnati Rivalry Moving to Neutral Site

CINCINNATI (CBB/Newsfeed) — The city’s annual college basketball rivalry is moving to a neutral court. Xavier and Cincinnati have agreed to change the setting for their annual game following a brawl that resulted in eight players suspended last season. Instead of playing on campus, the next two games will be at a downtown arena. Cincinnati will be the home team for the Dec. 19 game, with Xavier the home team the following year. Arizona’s Sean Miller Receives Contract Extension

TUCSON, Ariz. (CBB/Newsfeed) — Arizona men’s basketball coach Sean Miller will lead the Wildcats at least through the 2016-17 season. The Arizona Board of Regents approved a one-year contract extension Friday for Miller, who is 69-35 in three seasons with the Wildcats and in 2011 led the team to the Pac-10 regular-season title and the round of eight in the NCAA tournament. Boston U Goes to Patriot League from America East

BOSTON (CBB/Newsfeed) — Boston University is moving to the Patriot League, leaving the America East conference at the start of the 2013-14 academic year. “This is a really unique opportunity for us to challenge ourselves,” BU athletic director Mike Lynch said. “We will be entering a league that embodies the ideal of valuing academics as the highest priority while sponsoring very competitive athletic programs. Former Indiana Coach Lou Watson Dies at 88

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (CBB/Newsfeed) — Former Indiana coach and player Lou Watson has died at the age of 88. Scott Funeral Home in Jeffersonville, where Watson will be buried, said he died Thursday in Fairfax, Va. Watson played for the Hoosiers from 1947-50, becoming its leading scorer at the time, and was first-team All-Big Ten in 1950. He was Indiana‘s head coach from 1966-71, guiding the Hoosiers to a Big Ten co-championship in 1967, and finishing with a 62-60 record. Butler May Leave Horizon for Atlantic 10

The NCAA tournament darling is reportedly debating whether to leave the Horizon League for the stronger, higher-profile and potentially more profitable Atlantic 10. The forward is set to graduate from Tennessee this summer with a degree in sociology, but was granted one more season of eligibility after being limited to eight games because of an ankle injury during his junior year. Woolridge averaged 4.3 points and 3.3 rebounds playing in 25 games last season for the Volunteers. In three years at Tennessee, he started 20 of 93 games. James Johnson to Get Hokies’ Hoops Job

Blacksburg Va. (CBB/Newsfeed) – Virginia Tech has chosen James Johnson to replace Seth Greenberg as its men’s basketball coach. A person familiar with the talks told The Associated Press on Monday that Johnson will replace Greenberg, under whom Johnson served as an assistant for five years. Johnson left Virginia Tech on April 19 to take a similar job at Clemson. The person spoke to the did so on condition of anonymity because the decision has not yet been announced.
