NCAA Waits to Probe USD Point Shaving

INDIANAPOLIS —The NCAA plans to conduct its own investigation into an alleged basketball gambling ring at the University of San Diego but will wait until the FBI completes its work. On Tuesday, NCAA vice president of enforcement Julie Roe Lach called the allegations sad, acknowledging the serious nature of the charges that were unsealed one day earlier in San Diego. Spartans, Tar Heels to Play on Carrier

SAN DIEGO —The San Diego Sports Commission has confirmed that Michigan State and North Carolina will play in the Carrier Classic on Veterans Day, the first NCAA basketball game to be played aboard an aircraft carrier. The commission, working with Morale Entertainment Foundation, says it has received written commitments from the two schools and that approval from the U.S. Navy is expected soon. Organizers haven’t announced which aircraft carrier will host the Nov. 11 game.

UCLA G Lee to Enter Draft, Hire Agent

LOS ANGELES —UCLA guard Malcolm Lee is leaving school to enter the NBA draft and he plans to hire an agent, ensuring he won’t be eligible to return for his senior season. Lee said Tuesday that he is immediately withdrawing from school. He averaged 13.1 points, second-best on the team, along with 3.1 rebounds this season. UConn G Walker to Enter NBA Draft

STORRS, Conn. —Connecticut’s Kemba Walker announced he will enter the NBA draft. The 6-foot-1 All-American guard led the Huskies to a 32-9 record, including an 11-0 postseason run that ended with a national championship. Walker is expected to be a first-round pick, and perhaps the second guard chosen behind Duke’s Kyrie Irving. Walker averaged 23.5 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.5 assists during his junior season, and scored a school record 965 points, accounting for 45 percent of the Huskies’ offense. INDIANAPOLIS —Butler guard Shelvin Mack says he will enter the NBA draft but will not hire an agent. The announcement came Tuesday morning in a statement issued by the school. SAN DIEGO —A former University of San Diego star basketball player, another former player and a former assistant coach were charged with running a sports betting business to affect the outcome of games, federal authorities said Monday.
