ST. LOUIS (MLB/Newsfeed) – Following a seven-game rehabilitation assignment, Allen Craig has been activated from the disabled list and will be in St. Louis for the opening of the Cardinals’ series against the Pirates on Tuesday. In order to make room for Craig on the 25-man roster, the club has designated Rule 5 outfielder Erik Komatsu for assignment. Craig wrapped up his rehab stint with a three-hit, two-homer, five-RBI performance as Triple-A Memphis’ first baseman on Monday. In his seven Minor League games – three at Class A and four in Triple-A – Craig went 10-for-28. He played first base [...]

(MLB/Roberts) – Liriano talks about bullpen session, return to Twins Nothing has been easy for Twins left-hander Francisco Liriano to begin the season. Skipped over in his last start because of early season struggles, in which he went 0-3 with a 11.02 ERA, Liriano has had time to clear his head and work on his mechanics. Whether the tactic has worked or not will become clear Tuesday when he takes the mound against the Angels at Angel Stadium. “Honestly, I’m just excited to see him back out there. He’s been sitting around long enough,” Minnesota manager Ron Gardenhire said. “I’m [...]

ARLINGTON (MLB/Bauman) – Whatever you say about the Tampa Bay Rays — and whatever you say ought to be something seriously positive — they have been the only team capable of taking a regular-season series from the Texas Rangers since the beginning of last September The Rangers had won 12 consecutive regular-season series — the last six of 2011, and the first six of 2012. But that streak came to an end this weekend, with the Rays winning two out of three, taking the decisive third game, 5-2, on Sunday night. Prior to that, the Rangers’ last regular-season series loss [...]

ARLINGTON (MLB/Newsfeed) – David Price effectively removed the monkey from his back on Sunday night when he claimed his first career victory against the Rangers in a 5-2 Rays win at Rangers Ballpark with 43,475 watching. The victory gave the Rays their fourth consecutive series win. They have won nine of their last 11 games to remain in a tie with the Orioles for first place in the American League East. “Personally, for myself, I’ve never beat those guys,” Price said. “So first and foremost, that feels great. I’m pumped that we won, as well. I can turn that page [...]

ARLINGTON (MLB/Newsfeed) – Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton left Sunday’s game after two innings because of stiffness in his lower back. Right now, the Rangers are listing Hamilton as “day to day.” Hamilton, who has started all 22 games for the Rangers this season, had an RBI single in the first off of Rays starter David Price and is now hitting .395 on the season with nine home runs and 25 RBIs. Hamilton, who started in left field for the sixth time, was replaced by David Murphy. The Rangers next three games are on the artificial turf in Toronto and that [...]

Updated Apr 29, 2012 2:26 AM ET LOS ANGELES Perhaps one day, Bryce Harper will be hitting home runs at Matt Kemp’s current pace – although very few can. For now, the Washington Nationals’ top prospect can take satisfaction out the fact he hit a rope over Kemp’s head in center field for a double in the third at-bat of his major league debut. Harper also drove in the go-ahead run in the ninth inning with a sacrifice fly and Wilson Ramos added an insurance run for the Washington Nationals with an RBI single. But closer Henry Rodriguez gave both [...]

Updated Apr 28, 2012 2:35 AM ET Peter O’Malley, unsuccessful in his effort to regain ownership of the Los Angeles Dodgers, is now trying to buy one of the Dodgers’ NL West rivals. O’Malley, his son Kevin and nephew Tom Seidler are mounting an aggressive push for the San Diego Padres and want to close a deal by the All-Star break, sources say. The O’Malley group has signed documents permitting it access to team financial information, sources say, and apparently has raised sufficient equity to purchase the club. Initial indications are that the group values the Padres at less than [...]

Updated Apr 27, 2012 5:07 PM ET Detroit Tigers left fielder Delmon Young was arrested Friday on a hate crime harassment charge after police said he got into a fight with a group of men and yelled anti-Semitic epithets. Young was standing outside of the Hilton New York at about 1:30 a.m., where he was staying ahead of a series with the New York Yankees that starts Friday night. Nearby, a group of about four Chicago tourists staying at the hotel were approached by a panhandler wearing a yarmulke and a Star of David around his neck. After, as the [...]
