In this era where a majority of the NBA’s star players seem to be friendly with one another in some capacity off the court, a regular season basketball game that achieves a certain level of chippiness is a welcome surprise. So with that in mind, we bring you these selected highlights from Utah’s close loss to the defending champion Mavericks on Thursday. In the clip above, you will first see Derrick Favors hold onto the ball a little too long after he is whistled for an offensive foul, catching Dirk Nowitzki above the shoulders with the right hand. Nowitzki is [...]

When the Hornets traded Chris Paul for multiple players including Eric Gordon, there was a concern that due to their rebuilding process, Gordon may not be willing to spend his years in the Big Easy wasting away through a lottery reconstruction. Gordon is entering restricted free agency, after all, and a signing of the qualifying offer and exit in free agency the following year would allow him to pick where he wanted to go. But there’s a problem. The money is so important coming off that first rookie contract. It’s the first contract that gets you real money, that sets [...]

UPDATE 6:53 pm: The Chicago Bulls have made official what we expected, Derrick Rose will sit out Friday night’s game in Cleveland with his toe injury. Don’t be shocked if he misses another game or two. Guys are missing more games with these minor injuries this season due to the compacted schedule. Thanks again, lockout! 12:44 pm: Derrick Rose sat out shootaround on Friday and while it’s not official yet (he will test it in warm ups), don’t expect him to suit up Friday night against Kyrie Irving and the Cleveland Cavaliers, reports Aggrey Sam of CSNChicago.com. Rose and the [...]

We had passed along word of the arrest of former NBA player and current Mavericks assistant coach Darrell Armstrong the other day. He was picked up in Los Angeles but the warrant was for gambling debt with Harrah’s Las Vegas. Now the whole thing may go away soon. It’s all about the money. The Associated Press explains. The $ 40,000 bail that a Dallas Mavericks assistant coach posted can be used to clear up a Las Vegas casino debt that led to his arrest in Los Angeles County, a prosecutor said Thursday. “Usually the bail set is the same as [...]

One year ago, the table was flipped. What held the Miami Heat back was a lack of depth – it was the big three and then little else they could count on. It haunted them in the finals against Dallas. The Lakers on the other hand had the sixth man of the year and while there were issues they were the team that could role out a bench that would pull away from yours. Thursday night, it was Miami’s depth that blew the Lakers out of the water. Miami pulled away the first time the benches came in and controlled [...]

It looked like an innocent play at the time – there wasn’t even a foul called. Atlanta’s Tracy McGrady tried to reach up and block a pass from Portland’s Nicolas Batum, missed it and in the process swiped his face. But he got Batum in the eye. On possession later Batum was out of the game and went back to the locker room. Soon he had to be taken to the hospital. After the game Batum told CSNNW.com that he still was seeing double a little bit but that X-rays came back negative and the exam showed nothing serious. He [...]

One note we kind of glossed over from the Miami Heat’s dramatic comeback win over the Spurs Tuesday – Mike Miller is back. The three-point specialist missed the start of the season due to a sports hernia but he was back running with the Heat on Tuesday night and went 6-of-6 from three in 15 minutes of play. He helps the Heat in a lot of ways, starting with depth. Miller also spaces the floor with his shooting, makes good decisions on when to pass and plays better defense than he gets credit for. But all of that is not [...]
