Police: Leaf Broke into Home to Steal Bottle of Painkillers

HELENA, Mont. — Police in Montana arrested ex-NFL quarterback Ryan Leaf after a month-long investigation that culminated with Leaf breaking into an acquaintance’s home to steal prescription pain medication, the task force commander who led the probe said Saturday. Authorities believe he may have broken into other homes in search of prescription drugs over the past one-and-a-half years and are asking those victims to come forward, said Central Montana Drug Force Commander Chris Hickman. “We do have some information that this may not be an isolated incident,” Hickman said. Leaf faced a similar accusation in 2008, when he was accused [...]

School Schedule Could Complicate Start of Luck’s Pro Career

Andrew Luck waited a year before entering the NFL draft, and he might need to wait a while longer before his professional career gets into full swing. Stanford’s academic calendar provides an interesting logistical hurdle for the likely No. 1 overall draft pick. Because Luck is an early entrant into the draft and has not yet graduated, and because his school is on the quarter system, he’ll have to wait until he finishes finals to report. The league confirmed that to NFL Network on Friday morning. The one exception made under the policy is for a club’s rookie minicamp. The [...]

Peyton claims he wasn’t opposed to playing in the NFC Posted by Mike Florio on March 30, 2012, 7:20 AM EDT In the wake of his introductory press conference, we haven’t heard much (actually, anything) from Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning. He recently broke his public silence with his first Denver-area radio interview. Appearing on KKFN, Manning addressed a variety of subjects. Most significantly, Manning claims that the fact his brother plays in the NFC wasn’t a factor in Peyton’s deliberations. “Well, that’s not true, because obviously when I was talking to San Francisco, they asked me that,” Manning said, via [...]

Edwards: Rooney Rule ‘A Sham’ As Saints Eye Parcells

Bill Parcells hasn’t been offered a position with the New Orleans Saints, and the team isn’t rushing to replace Sean Payton during his one-year suspension from the league. That didn’t stop former NFL coach Herm Edwards from lambasting the Saints in light of the Rooney Rule, which requires teams to interview at least one minority candidate for head-coaching positions. Edwards believes New Orleans’ perceived interest in Parcells turns the eventual hiring process into a foregone conclusion. “It makes it a little bit of a scam now,” Edwards said on ESPN, via ProFootballTalk.com. “That’s the shame of it all. Sean Payton [...]

Revis Calls Belichick a “Jerk”

Revis calls Belichick a “jerk” Posted by Michael David Smith on March 29, 2012, 7:37 AM EDT Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis didn’t stop at saying the Jets’ locker room is in “disarray” in an appearance on ESPN Wednesday. During ESPN’s fine journalistic interviewing technique of playing word association with Revis and Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, Revis was asked to describe Patriots coach Bill Belichick in one word. Revis answered, “jerk.” Asked to elaborate on why he thinks Belichick is a jerk, Revis said, “Some of the comments he says about the Jets.” He did not give any examples. Gronkowski [...]
