Selanne Passes Kurri on All-Time Scoring List

DENVER – Teemu Selanne wasn’t in the mood to celebrate his latest accomplishment Monday night, passing fellow Finn and childhood idol Jari Kurri to move into sole possession of 19th place on the NHL’s all-time scoring list. The Anaheim Ducks’ seemingly ageless right wing – he’s 41 and in his 20th NHL season – collected his 1,399th career point with a power-play goal in the third period in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Colorado Avalanche at the Pepsi Center. Lehtonen’s Strong Play Carries Stars Up Standings

FRISCO, Texas — The Dallas Stars currently are on a 10-game point streak (9-0-1), a stretch where the lone game where they didn’t get the full two points was Feb. 29 in a 4-3 shootout loss to the Penguins, a team on a strong run of their own. While there have been many reasons for the Stars’ recent surge to the top of the Pacific Division standings, the stellar play of starting goaltender Kari Lehtonen has been a major factor. During this streak, the 28-year-old netminder has started eight of the 10 games, going 7-0-1 with a 1.46 goals-against-average, a [...]

Jets Losing Ground in Playoff Race

The Jets’ playoff chances took two big blows on Sunday. First, the Washington Capitals extended their eighth-place lead on the Jets to four points with a 2-0 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Capitals and Jets, who have two games remaining against one another, both have 13 regular-season contests to go. If that isn’t bad enough for the Jets and their fans, any thoughts of catching Florida for first place in the Southeast Division are probably now out the window after the Panthers beat the Carolina Hurricanes by the same 2-0 score on Sunday. The Panthers are five points [...]

The win gives the Flames 76 points, good enough for eighth in the West thanks to the fact that they have two more regulation victories than ninth-place Los Angeles. “It’s huge for us. Thomas Ready for Increased Workload with Rask Out

BOSTON – The 25 straight games he started while flaunting Atlas-like strength in carrying the Boston Bruins to the Stanley Cup championship at the end of last season are an indelible part of team history. If Tim Thomas is going to duplicate that massive effort this season, it appears he’s going to have to get used to a heavy workload a little earlier than he did before Boston’s drought-snapping run to the title. Bruins No. 1A goaltender Tuukka Rask recently went down with a groin injury that’s going to sideline him for at least six weeks, and recently-signed Marty Turco [...]
