It only takes one shot to win a golf tournament. That’s exactly the advantage Luke Donald has after three rounds of The Heritage. If he maintains that lead through tomorrow’s final round at Harbour Town GL, the Englishman will become the No. 1 ranked player in the Easter edition of the Official World Golf Ranking. It seems only fitting for a man who has a good bit of seasonal pastel in his wardrobe. After a third round of 1-under 70, Donald maintained his 1-shot lead over the field on Hilton Head. He leads defending champion Jim Furyk by a shot. [...]

The year obviously got off to a bad start for Camilo Villegas. A victim of a phone-in disqualification at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions cost Villegas momentum to start the year. He made an equipment change from Cobra Golf to TaylorMade, which may have required more of a transition than the Colombian thought. But, now, it seems like Villegas has found his game and his stride through two rounds of The Heritage. He is through two rounds on 8-under par, just a couple of shots back of Luke Donald’s lead going in the weekend. Of course, the natural question for [...]

Ever since Henrik Stenson stripped down at the WGC CA Championship in March 2009, it has been largely a rough go of it for the Swede. Outside of his win at The Players that May, Stenson’s best PGA Tour finish was a third place in the 2010 Open Championship. On Friday at the Heritage, Stenson broke 70 for just the third time all year. And it took him just 20 putts to get around Harbour Town, leading to a round of 3-under 68. The other two sub-70 rounds came in the Puerto Rico Open – a tournament opposite what used [...]

Luke Donald may not want to become the top ranked player in the Official World Golf Ranking, if the track record of the last three men to hold position atop the ladder is any indication. Golf Channel’s Randall Mell tweeted a most interesting statistic about players who have held the top ranking for the last 75 weeks. None of them have won while ranked No. 1. For the final 50 weeks of his reign atop the OWGR, Tiger Woods did not win an event. (He still hasn’t.) In his 17-week reign, Lee Westwood did not win a single time. And, [...]

Like seemingly a ton of PGA Tour players, Garrett Willis had been facing some problems with the flat stick. Looking for answers, he arrived at Harbour Town GL thinking that a new putter was in order. So he had a bit of an audition in the days leading up to the event. After looking at some ten putters, Willis settled on a new putter. And it clearly worked for him on Thursday. An opening round of 7-under 65 gave him a 1-shot lead over a host of players in the morning wave of the Heritage. It was hard to break [...]

Historically speaking, the week after the Masters usually is one of the more pleasant trips of the year for guys on the PGA Tour. Whether coming from Augusta or somewhere else, descending on Hilton Head, South Carolina, for the Heritage has always been a treat for the players. That tradition may be in question, as Verizon is no longer title sponsor of the event played at Harbour Town Golf Links. And the PGA Tour has said that the event simply cannot continue if it does not raise the near $ 10 million required to present the event each year. Defending [...]

In a January auction, Adams Golf bought the assets of Colorado-based Yes! Golf, which had filed for bankruptcy liquidation November 2010. On Wednesday, Adams announced it would be releasing eight putter models under the Yes! Golf brand, using the C-groove technology which caught golfers’ eyes years ago. Three of the eight models are new to the US marketplace, per the Yes!/Adams announcement. Abbie (Forged) – A chrome-plated heel-toe classic with the soft, responsive feel of 2025 carbon steel and slant neck hosel. Available in right hand. Ann – New to US – A time-honored heel-toe plumber neck design made of [...]

Though they are as close as a player-caddie duo can be, Dustin Johnson and Bobby Brown are no longer working together. Johnson’s agent confirmed the split to GolfChannel.com’s Rex Hoggard. Johnson is next scheduled to play in South Korea next week, and Hoggard says Johnson will have a friend loop for him in that event. After that trip, Johnson will look for a replacement in earnest. Obviously, something wasn’t right for the pair, whose split was termed amicable by Johnson’s agent, Rocky Hambric. But Brown made headlines earlier this year when he had a verbal confrontation with Jim Gray at [...]
