Crimson Tide Rolls Over Texas

Four point favorites Alabama beat Texas 37-21 last night covering the point spread at all the major sportsbooks. The score is not indicitive of the closeness of the game as Alabama scored a late touchdown on a Texas turnover. In the end, the Crimson Tide took college football’s national championship title for the first time since 1992.

In the eight previous meetings between the Tide and the Longhorns, Alabama had never won. Last night was their first victory over Texas and in doing so they join the 2002 Ohio State Buckeyes and this year’s Boise State team as the only teams to finish with a perfect 14-0 season at college football’s elite level.

Alabama’s keys to victory on this night were as expected: a strong running game and a bruising defense that created turnovers. Another factor adding to Alabama’s victory was the shoulder injury that knocked Texas quarterback McCoy out the game in the first quarter. Mark Ingram, the Heisman Trophy winner, scored two touchdowns for Alabama.
