COLUMBUS, Ohio — After the final horn had sounded and LeBron and D-Wade had long left and the winningest coach in the history of Division I men’s basketball had told a group of us that his “butt is sore” from the ass-kicking he’d just taken, Ohio State’s Thad Matta finally made it into the media room here at Value City Arena, plopped down and explained the gameplan his Buckeyes had just executed brilliantly. “One of the things we wanted to do a good job of was get off to a good start,” Matta said. “Obviously, we did.” Yeah, obviously. This [...]

Bargain DeJesus signing a good start for Epstein in Chicago Matthew Pouliot Nov 30, 2011, 6:30 PM EST 2 Comments This isn’t the first time Theo Epstein tried to land David DeJesus. As Boston’s general manager, Epstein attempted to pick up DeJesus from the Royals both before the 2010 trade deadline and again after the season. Epstein missed out both times, though, and DeJesus was instead dealt to Oakland, where he turned in his most disappointing season to date as the A’s primary right fielder. Of course, Epstein didn’t let that series of events get him down. In fact, he [...]

Hockey Hall of Famer Pat LaFontaine and his son, Daniel, have a mutual respect for each other. That’s a good thing considering dad also happens to be Daniel’s coach for the Long Island Royals Under-16 Midget National team based out of Superior Ice Rink in Kings Park, N.Y. While there’s no question the relationship between coach and son is never an easy one, the LaFontaines seem to have found a common ground. The results have been encouraging, too, for any father hoping to one day coach his son. “When I became the head coach of the Royals three years ago, [...]
