NBA, Wizards and Guns, Oh No

The Washington Wizards Gilbert Arenas could be facing serious discipline following reports that he and teammate Javaris Crittenton had guns drawn on each other in the dressing room. The gun play allegedly took place during a dispute about a bet Arenas hadn’t paid off.

Arenas has already acknowledged keeping three pistols in a safe in his locker in order to keep them away from his young children. The police are also investigating the incident. There is a great deal of speculation over the incident and it is still unclear as to whether the guns where actually drawn or not.

There is no debating that pro basketball has a gun culture despite the NBA’s best efforts otherwise. Alarm bells are surely sounding in the NBA front offices. The NBA prohibits the possession of firearms at NBA venues and functions. The league would like to bar carrying guns entirely by players but it would no doubt be unconstitutional. If nothing else, it will be interesting to see how this all plays out.
