Lights Out for Pre-Season Favorite Patriots

Heading into their match-up against the Baltimore Ravens, the New England Patriots were 3.5 point favorites and according to LinesMaker, the betting action was heavily on the Patriots to cover by nearly a 2 to 1 margin. Despite the strong public backing for the Patriots it was those who bet on the Ravens who were cashing their betting tickets today as the Ravens beat the Patriots 33-14.

An outstanding performance by the entire Ravens defense led by Ray Lewis was a key factor shutting down Tom Brady and New England Patriots offense. The game included Ray Rice making an 83 yard touchdown run that is now the second-longest post-season run from scrimmage in the history of NFL.

The Ravens offensive was also strong with 33 points, including four offensive touchdowns bringing the Patriots season to a shocking and premature end. The Patriots closed out the season with an uncharacteristic performance which looked little like the previous teams from recent years. Fans are now left pondering what the future will hold for a team that entered the season as the consensus favorite to take the Super Bowl this year.
