You Can’t Keep Colt McCoy Away from Work with Browns

03 May 2012

Cleveland (NFL/Newsfeed) – On Thursday morning, the Cleveland Browns leaked information that they expected Colt McCoy to make a “big leap forward” in 2012. By Thursday night, he was on the trade block. Monday has arrived, and McCoy is back where he started: The Browns’ team facility. Tom Withers of The Associated Press noted that McCoy was present for the team’s offseason program. Really, what choice does he have? Jason La Canfora of NFL Network tells ATL that the Browns expect McCoy to be back on the team. The Browns can’t get anything for him in a trade unless some [...]

Mets Battle Back in Extras to Beat Rockies

03 May 2012

DENVER (MLB/DiComo) – Terry Collins had stressed it the night before at Coors Field, lamenting that leads “are never safe here.” So it was Sunday afternoon, when the Mets received a standout performance from Johan Santana and finally supported him with some early offense, only to blow two late leads at Coors. It could have made for an unhappy plane ride to Houston. Instead, Ike Davis cued a party by plating the winning run in a 6-5 victory with his ground-ball single in the 11th. The Mets dressed up afterward in cowboy hats and boots and wore brightly-colored serapes, celebrating [...]

03 May 2012

SALT LAKE CITY (CFB/Newsfeed) – Officials at Utah State and San Jose State acknowledge they are in discussions with the Mountain West Conference over realignment for 2013 yet say no formal agreement has been reached. Conference USA already is set to bring aboard Texas-San Antonio just months before the school was to begin its first season in the Western Athletic Conference. The moves could mean the end of the WAC as a football league. Utah State athletic director Scott Barnes is attending WAC meetings in Phoenix but acknowledged “things have progressed,” though no decision is formal. San Jose State sports [...]

Van Riemsdyk Sparks Flyers in Game 1

03 May 2012

PHILADELPHIA (NHL/Kimelman) — James van Riemsdyk might have been one of the most dominant players in the 2011 Stanley Cup Playoffs, scoring seven goals in 11 games. He was so good, he finished tied for ninth goals without playing past the second round. After an injury-plagued 2011-12 season, that player finally made his reappearance. Van Riemsdyk had a goal, was a plus-3, took a team-high five shots on net and set the screen on Danny Briere’s overtime goal that allowed the Flyers to take a 1-0 series lead against the New Jersey Devils with a 4-3 victory Sunday in Game [...]

Knicks Will Evaluate Lin Further Later This Week

03 May 2012

MIAMI (NBA/Newsfeed) – The New York Knicks sound hopeful that Jeremy Lin’s return to the lineup may come sooner than later. Lin did some on-court work in Miami for the fourth consecutive day, before the Knicks played the Miami Heat on Monday night in Game 2 of an Eastern Conference first-round playoff series. Game 3 isn’t until Thursday in New York. The Knicks plan to practice on Tuesday and Wednesday, and that could give them time to get a better feel for how Lin’s recovery from surgery to repair torn cartilage in his left knee is going. “We haven’t run [...]

Quakes Find Way Even When Wondo’s Not Finding Net

02 May 2012

SAN JOSE, Calif. (MLS/Lepper) – The San Jose Earthquakes’ depth might have passed its biggest milestone yet on Saturday, when the club showed that a Chris Wondolowski goal is no longer a prerequisite for winning. While Wondolowski turned in what he considered a subpar performance against the Philadelphia Union, the Quakes continued to dominate the ball – eventually winning the possession battle 59-41 percent – and found goals in the 76th and 93rd minutes from Steven Lenhart to post a 2-1 victory. It was San Jose’s first win without a goal from Wondolowski since June 11 of last year, when [...]

Dodgers Surge to Top Spot of MLB Power Rankings

02 May 2012

As reported on MLB.com, this week’s MLB power rankings see the Dodgers surge to top spot.   This Week’s Power Rankings This Week Movement Power Player Last Week 1 A three-game home sweep of the Nationals over the weekend has put the boys from Chavez Ravine in our top spot this week. Their 16-6 record is tied for tops in the Majors with the Rangers, and a lot of it still has to do with Kemp, who continues to astound. The latest feat of heroicism was a 10th-inning walk-off homer deep, and we’re talking DEEP, into the Los Angeles night [...]
