Four days after being hospitalized with what was initially described as a congenital vascular condition, Florida freshman Neiron Ball has been released, the Orlando Sentinel is reporting.
The linebacker had been suffering from headaches earlier in the week prior to seeking medical attention, and when he was admitted to the hospital Tuesday morning, it was discovered that a blood vessel in his brain had burst. He was then placed in intensive care, where he remained until Thursday.
Ball’s brother-in-law told the Sentinel that “[h]e’s in our care now” and will spend the week with his family.
“What we’ve been through, it’s not completely healthy but to get to the point where he’s better, is great,” Dary Myricks told the paper.
Because of the medical condition, Ball, who played in 13 games in 2010, will not participate in spring practice. As far as his long-range future in the game, the Gainesville Sun reports that no decision has been made about whether he’ll be able to continue his football career.

According to a report on NFL.com, the owners claim the union has failed to bargain in good faith, instead biding time before the current CBA expires on March 3, when the NLFPA is expected to retaliate with an antitrust litigation against the league if a new deal is not reached. Last Thursday, a five-hour meeting between the two parties was called off with neither side giving a reason for the cancellation. At issue between the two sides is how to spilt the roughly billion in annual revenues, extending the season to 18 games and the rookie wage scale.

SALT LAKE CITY – Utah Jazz reserve center Mehmet Okur will miss at least three weeks because of a chronic disc problem in his lower back.
Okur was examined by back specialist Dr. Graham Hill in Salt Lake City on Monday. The examination confirmed the injury. The specialist placed Okur in a three-week program to rehab and allow him to stay in shape. Okur will not travel with the team during his rehab.
Okur missed the first 26 games of the season while recovering from a ruptured Achilles’ tendon. He has appeared in just 13 games this season.
Reserve center Francisco Elson will not play Wednesday night against the Chicago Bulls because of inflammation in his left knee.
The Bulls will be without center Joakim Noah because of an injury to his right hand and thumb.

A little over nine months after rumors first surfaced — and were later confirmed — that Logan Gray was considering a transfer from Georgia, the quarterback-turned-wide receiver has indeed pulled the trigger on a transfer.
Gray confirmed today via a statement Tuesday that he is leaving the UGA football program and will pursue his Master’s degree at a school closer to his home of Columbia, Missouri.
“I will graduate in May from UGA with my degree in Speech Communication,” said Gray. “I plan on playing my last year of football while pursuing my Master’s degree at another school, most likely close to home, where my family can attend all of my games. I would like to thank Coach Richt for giving me the opportunity to be a Bulldog the last four years, and sticking beside me throughout the whole experience. I would also like to thank my teammates for everything. They are like another family to me and I know I will be close with several of them for the rest of my life.”
“I want to express sincere appreciation to Logan for his many contributions to our program the last four years,” said head coach Mark Richt. “He’s been an asset to our team and program as both a player and student and we wish him nothing but the very best.”
Gray, a four-start recruit coming out of high school, was in a three-way battle for the starting quarterback job last spring that ultimately was won by Aaron Murray, and Gray was subsequently moved to receiver. He played in all 13 games in 2010, and finished with nine receptions for 105 yards and a touchdown.
There’s no word on where he may ultimately land.

CHICAGO —The Chicago Cubs have agreed to trade pitcher Tom Gorzelanny to the Washington Nationals for prospects, a person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press.
The person spoke on the condition of anonymity Monday because Gorzelanny needed to pass a physical, which is scheduled for Tuesday.
MLB.com, citing two unidentified baseball sources, reported outfielder Michael Burgess, right-hander A.J. Morris and left-hander Graham Hicks would be sent to the Cubs as part of the trade.
A 28-year-old left-hander, Gorzelanny is 36-37 with a 4.68 ERA in six seasons. He was 7-9 with a 4.09 ERA in 29 games (23 starts) last year but became expendable after the Cubs acquired Matt Garza in a trade with Tampa Bay.
The Nationals also agreed to a .75 million, one-year contract with pitcher John Lannan and avoided salary arbitration. The 26-year-old lefty was 8-8 with a 4.65 ERA last season, when he made 8,000.
